Social Justice and Advocacy

Justice is the concept of fairness and Social Justice is the statement of fairness as it manifests in the society. The fundamental lies in the right to live a life of dignity with equal access to all the basic needs viz. healthcare, employment, housing etc. for one and all. Thus, it is an important responsibility of every individual to make every being in the society aware of the issues and development goals.

If, from a budding age, children are made aware of the disparity in society and the criminal negligence towards human rights and so-called social norms that lead to social injustice , they will develop a tendency to grow up as sensible , empathetic and responsible citizens of the world. Social justice is not merely a practice but an involvement that promises to make the planet a better space for individuals.

Involving social justice in curriculum has been an ardent approach of the CCBI schools. The Edmund Rice International (ERI) is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to working for children and young people who are marginalised because of poverty, lack of access to education and other social issues.

ERI works at the international level to promote and protect the rights of children and young people particularly with regard to education. Care for the environment is a value that is embedded in all that we do.

Inspired by the vision and life of Blessed Edmund Rice, the organisation believe that education in all its forms offers opportunities for the promotion of a rights-based and faith-based approach to social justice and ecological advocacy.

ERI and CCBI schools in India, and across the world share the vision of embedding justice in the curriculum so that children speak the language of justice, know the tools of advocacy and have the courage to identify with the ethos as they learn with responsibility and hands on experiences. Hence, St Joseph’s College looks forward to make social justice not only an intricate part of the curriculum but also a promise of responsible living for everyone in the coming future.
