Description:
World Day Against Child Labour.
A Day of Awareness and Expression at St. Joseph’s College.
On 16.06.2025, St. Joseph’s College, Bowbazar, Kolkata observed the World Day Against Child Labour with heartfelt discussions and thoughtful activities across the Junior School, from Nursery to Class 5.
The day served as a gentle reminder to our young students about the importance of education, freedom, and kindness, values every child deserves to grow up with.
Each class participated in their own special way, using art, words, and imagination to understand and reflect on the meaning of this day:
Nursery students dipped their tiny hands in paint to create a cheerful handprint craft titled: “These hands are made for learning, not working.” Their artwork was complete with smiley faces and school bag drawings—an innocent yet powerful expression of a child's right to learn and play.
In KG, the little ones made a craft titled “My School Bag – My Right!” Each bag was decorated with love, and a sense of pride shone in their eyes as they shared what they carried to school, tools of learning, not labour.
Class 1 students wore paper crowns that read “Say Yes to School”, walking around like confident little ambassadors of change, spreading the message loud and clear.
Class 2 created a reflective piece called “Free to Be Me” Mirror, where they looked into paper mirrors and wrote down what makes them unique and why education helps them dream big.
Class 3 worked on the theme:
“Books and pencils in my hand,
That’s how I learn and take a stand.”
Their discussions centered around the difference between tools used in schools vs. tools used in child labour. It helped the children appreciate the value of their own school life.
Class 4 designed a powerful bulletin board titled “School is My Right”. The display highlighted two sides—one with children enjoying school and another showing the grim reality of life without education. Students wrote about what they loved most about school, reinforcing how precious and powerful learning truly is.
Finally, Class 5 students created a “My Dream Job” craft (Mala Style), stringing together the different professions they aspire to be—doctors, teachers, artists, scientists, each one tied with the common thread of education.
From tiny handprints to powerful words, from crowns to dreams on a string, each activity helped children reflect on the importance of going to school.
Message of the Day:
“Stop Child Labour, Let Them Learn. Every Child Deserves a Chance to Study.”
It was a beautiful day of learning, sharing, and standing together for a cause that deeply matters.
